Absolutely magnificent!

Cylons had massive fighter superiority, but made the mistake of closing the Distance with the Colonials, allowing the Colonials to get in range with their heavy bow guns.

The Cylon fighters mobbed the Hades (Heavy Battlestar) and knocked it down to 1 Hull point, but the Cylons lost both Destroyers and a Base ship in return. the Cylons disengaged via jump after that, with the remaining base ship heavily damaged and the Command ship undamaged.

Colonials had one “Galactica”Style Battlestar (Studio Bergstrom), a Strikestar (Ninja Magic),and two Light Gunstars (Ninja Magic) for a total of 350 Points.

The Cylons had two Base Ships and two “2-Blade”Destroyers (All Bergstrom).

The Colonials had better defenses (Countermeasures and higher defense rating) and heavy Bow Railguns, but the Cylons had more fighters and Better long range weapons (Missiles)and in addition the Cylon Base Ships had the “Regeneration” ability.

Turn 1 the Cylon Base Ships went to “All Stop”orders and each launched 6 squadrons of raiders (Each ship carried 12 Squadrons). The Colonials went to Run Silent orders and started to move through the Asteroid Belt, holding off fighter launches until they closed. This minimized the effectiveness of the Cylon Long Range Missile advantage.

Alex (Running the Colonials) Used this strategy until clearing the Asteroids,then going to Full Speed to close into Bow Gun Range of the Cylons. After launching the rest of the Fighters, I broke off with my Base Ships to maintain range and used my Destroyers as cover (They had the “escort” Ability).

Alex hammered my Destroyers and my Raiders pounced on his Vipers, whittling them down, he then moved into the Raiders with his Flak armed ships (3/2;Range 2; Anti-Fighter; Area of Effect) and munched some of the Raiders.

My remaining raiders attacked his lightstars and his fighters, while my base ships volleyed ineffective missile fire from long range.

Once his capital ships had whittled down my fighters and killed my Destroyers,he launched his fighter Reserves held back on The Galactica and the  Strikestar. in the dogfight they remaining fighters chewed each other up, but with the colonials left with fighter superiority (3 squadrons).

Alex jumped out one crippled lightstar and the base Ships blew up the other with Missile fire. One of my Base Ships had taken light damage,but I had regenerated some of it and it was only down two Hull Points.

At this point I disengaged by Accelerating at Full Speed off the Map, as I felt there was little likelihood that I could maintain range long enough to batter through the colonials Defenses before they closed in and gutted me.

Clear Victory for the Colonials!

For those curious, Starmada Fleet Ops is GREAT.

I think I actually like it more than Starmada:Admiralty Edition and it plays faster. This was Alex’s first game and we never referred back to the book after turn 2.

Here are the new Mongoose/ADB Klingon Ships on a 1″ grid for scale (Alongside a Bergstrom Galactica). They are bigger than I expected, but I actually REALLY like them. lots of character and they feel like “hero” ships. Given that SFB is very much a game about smaller numbers of ships these will be nice on a Hex map with really big hexes (Say the 3″ Hexes from either Hotz or Corsec).

I LOVE THIS MINI. It has AWESOME Battlefield presence and is very, very nice.

As is normal with Ravenstar castings there is a little cleanup involved, but with a little care and a sharp knife it was no trouble at all.

Here are the SSDs for the ship Classes:

Hoping to catch the Cylons off guard, the Colonial High Command ordered two Athena-Class Strikestars (With their escorting Lightstars) to move through the Shoals of Adrache and hit the base from behind. This would sever the Cylon refueling chain at the front, forcing them to withdraw in that region.

This is that battle.

Objectives: the Colonials MUST destroy the Hexadecimal base and retreat at least One Strikestar (Not crippled) out of their entry corner.

Cylon Setup:

2x Cylon First war Base Ships (With fighters)

1x Hexadecimal class forward refueling station.

The Cylon Hexadecimal Base must be set up in one corner of the map, no more than 15 hexes from both table edges.

Two Cylon Baseships (101101 and 102202) are in close station to the Cylon Hexadecimal Base. They must be set up within two hexes and at Zero Velocity.

The First turn the Cylon ships may not move but may launch fighters.

Colonial Setup:

2x Colonial Strikestars (With Fighters)

2x Colonial Lightstars

The Colonial Strikestars and Lightstars have just emerged from the obscuring dust clouds at a distance of at least 20 hexes. They are on full alert and during the first turn are considered to be under “Full Speed” orders.
